The SAREX OWS Oily Water Separator with Oil Content Monitor is a three-stage coalescer-type system designed to separate and remove non-soluble oil, solids, and entrained air from an oily water solution.
The system, which can process oily water at a maximum rate of 20 gallons per minute (5.0 m3/h), is designed for continuous and intermittent operation without the need for chemical or other additives. The coalescence process occurs as the fluid flows through filter elements mounted in the three pressure vessels. Two probes, one on each of the first two separator stages, provide an automatic control capability for discharging accumulated oil.
Oil buildup in the first and second stage separator vessels where the bulk of the oil is separated, is sensed by the probes which signal solenoid operated oil discharge valves to open and dump the separated oil into a holding tank. Oil buildup in the third stage vessel is so insignificant that the third stage functions primarily as a polishing stage. The water processed through the third stage is discharged through a solenoid operated water discharge valve.
The system is equipped with an Oil Content Monitor which continually monitors the contamination level of non-soluble oil in the effluent flow from the third-stage vessel. If the oil contamination in the effluent rises above the set limit (15 ppm oil content in water), discharge is automatically terminated and the effluent is diverted back to an oily water holding tank for reprocessing. A visual indicator is automatically activated when the system enters the recirculation mode.
